Why you should attend the MPS Tech Expo tomorrow night!

In schools across the globe people are talking about transforming education.    Educators, parents, lawmakers, students—even celebrities are having discussions on how to reimagine, reinvent, and change our educational practices to make them more relevant in the digital age.  Here in McAlester Public Schools we are having these same conversations and believe that personalizing learning and giving students opportunities to create, connect and collaborate with one another using digital tools is an idea whose time has come.   Our students are passionate users of technology and they want to make a difference in the world around them.  The classrooms in our district are changing as students are reaching outside the school walls to authenticate their learning with real world applications.     The Tech Expo was an idea born from a desire to showcase this transformation and to bring parents and community members into these classrooms, which have become digital learning spaces.   At the Tech Expo students will be presenting technology driven projects, devices, applications, and curriculum that they use daily.   This year our district theme for the year has been “What If. . .” and routinely asks our teachers, leaders and students to fill in that blank.  “What If” every student in McAlester Public Schools left our schools both innovation and future ready?   “What if” our students had the same opportunities as their peers across the globe?    Today’s 21st century learners come to school with different needs and expectations.  We know that young people deserve schools that will support and lift up their passions and learning environments that will enhance their creativity.   We are fortunate to live in a time when social media and online networks allow young people to connect with one another and the world around them.  We hope that parents will seize the opportunity to witness education as it has never been before.  The classrooms of yesterday will not meet the needs of students today.  Please join us at the Tech Expo to see the future in action.  This celebration of our 21st century learning will occur January 27th from 6-8 PM at the Southeast Expo Center.   This fun filled event for the entire community will include free food and great door prizes.  Through the generous donations of our sponsors, we will be giving away 5 iPads and other cool technology tools that evening.   We hope to see you all at the Expo!
